Today I had my interview at Swansea Metropolitan University and it went extremely well.

They commended me for having a portfolio box and archival sleeves to show my work in and really liked my images! They said I spoke about my work really well too and the only thing they'd give advice with would be to put more into an ideas journal as it's one thing they require in the course in terms of coursework.

They gave me a conditional offer and said I should have no problem achieving the grades I'm predicted with my standard of work.

Final edits from my Bunny test shoot! Next step will be to look for props and different outfits and locations.

Thursday 16 February 2012

Above are two final images from my shoot with my friend Tara for one of my assignments around the word 'glitter'. These were shot in a studio against a white background using a single beauty dish.

Below are two images also from this same assignment but with my friend Luke with a different approach. These were taken in my model's house against a plain wall with a flashgun attached to my camera.

I have also edited two final images from my first Bunny test shoot which I will upload later on today so I don't spam with lots of posts and images!

Above are two unedited images from my picture taking yesterday! I'm going to sort through the images properly and come up with at least 2 final ones which I will expand upon in the future.

I also had a go at creating a GIF in Photoshop from still frames:

It's not very good and there are things I want to change about it; one being the frame speed but for my first attempt, I'm relatively pleased with it! and it took over an hour to make because of my poor laptop.

Today I did some practise shooting for my project inspired by Chip Simons and his series called Bunny which I am hoping to use for my final major project. I will post some of my images before the end of tomorrow to show you exactly what I got:

For now, this was a quick phone snap which I took!

Tuesday 7 February 2012

After coming to the conclusion that I work a lot better at unsociable hours, I thought I'd write a quick blog post update!

So these last two weeks have been fairly good in terms of universities; I have interviews for both Swansea Metropolitan University and Glamorgan University within the next two months! I have also been printing out some images to go into my portfolio. After critique the other week of my portfolio not being 'coherent' and seeing it actually in a portfolio box, I can now understand how it looks incoherent. I'm going to look over all the photographs which I have taken and re-judge those which I originally looked over and also try get some input from other members of my group!

After deciding I want to do a project based on Chip Simons' Bunny series, my mask arrived in the post! It came in a very large box for what it was and had some of the mask mould between the ears which I cut off and have been left with what I have shown below:

I'm definitely going to pitch this as an idea for my final major project and if it's not successful then I am going to still do it as a personal project.

Thursday is going to be a trip to London to see Don McCullin's exhibition which I am very excited about! The excitement is worthy of a '=D' face. We'll also be shooting some 'typical' London images for another assignment which is about helping digital manipulation skills and compositing images in Photoshop.

This week will be a matter of sorting out everything assignment based which I am yet to achieve, finalising my plans for my Final Major Project and preparations for my first university interview on the 22nd of this month!

To finish off; some lyrics of a very good song I keep listening to:
Don't lose focus, because we are halfway there, inception of the end, sacrifice all your fear!
Trivium - Inception Of The End
Got an e-mail today from Glamorgan University offering me an interview in March; that's responses from 2/5 so far. Not bad at all.

Saturday 4 February 2012

This picture is a result of last night involving lots of hair spray, mousse, cake glitter, PVA glue and sequins! It's a part of my assignment which is creating an image around the word 'glitter', I'm yet to go through all of my images and to edit those taken but that shall be done before the end of this weekend!

(Please note the sequin was for decorative purposes only!)

I also took some more photographs in college time yesterday of Tara in the studio also involving sequins and PVA glue; I will post an example and try to get some final edits done before the weekend so I can upload them onto here!

Friday 3 February 2012

Today I did two practise shoots for one of my assignments involving PVA glue and sequins being stuck on peoples' faces! I shall be uploading example images shortly.

Thursday 2 February 2012

Today I discovered the work of Chip Simons in a magazine which I was searching through to help find me some inspiration for my Final Major Project! I came across some of his images from his series called Bunny which has already inspired me to try and attempt some images similar myself! He uses medium format and a tilt/shift lens which I can get the same effect with by using the 5x4" large format camera!

Some examples of his work:

I have already began scouting for a mask which I could use as a prop and came across one on eBay for £6:

I'm going to continue looking but so far so good, it doesn't look too far off to me!

Today I received a letter from Swansea Metropolitan University asking for me to attend an interview on February 22nd! I  have 20 days to get my portfolio up to scratch and printed out properly for my travels back down south to Wales.
