Monday 26 December 2011

after abusing my Blogger for some time, I have come to the conclusion I need to change my ideas:

my environmental portraiture project has gone tits up.

my exploring space project has also gone tits up.

I need to think of new ideas and fact or else I won't be handing in any pictures on the deadline...

Monday 12 December 2011

Today's been fairly productive...

I've been to the Council HQ in town and got pointed towards the PCT in the town hall: who have given me a name and email address to someone who may be able to help me get inside the closed down hospital!

I received an email back from someone who works in Peterborough Prison without good news, however he'll see if he can help me. *fingers crossed*

I went into Flares and got them to pay me for the days work I did for them; funny how they were interviewing someone else :').

Two outstanding assignments have been completed and need handing in.

I'm getting there ever so slowly with my UCAS application; just need to find out all of my GCSE qualifications and then sort out my personal statement.

All I have left to do now is my 2 assignments due in this week... and finish off one of my outstanding ones then I'll be up to date. n_____n-

Saturday 10 December 2011

Today I was very naughty and went trespassing buuut they didn't make it the most difficult of challenges for me. I discovered the whereabouts of the old Dairy place in Peterborough and took a few photographs. Shortly after climbing through the metal fence a man in a bright yellow jacket stopped me and my friend and asked what we were doing... being a security bloke we were expecting him to tell us to eff off and to be done. He instead showed me around a little and gave me heads up on when he'd next be there so I could go again, if I wanted :'). such a lovely man.
but yes, derelict photos from Dairy and the last one is of the old Peterborough District Hospital of the entrance to a children's ward :).
Fairly successful day!

Thursday 8 December 2011

So that's a fair lump sum of money I'm missing out on due to registers not being marked correctly... unless this gets sorted out, I'm going to be down by £100+

I can't picture this getting sorted out proper any time soon so yey for EMA.

Wednesday 7 December 2011

When I'm at home I find it so easily to get distracted from doing college work; personal matters seem to just flood everything. I can't physically set my mind on doing work without it going elsewhere. I can't do my work anywhere else either... I fail really.
I have planned a letter I am going to send to both Whitemoor and Peterborough prisons to hopefully get my environmental portraiture assignment to a start.

*productive*
How do you expect to improve if you don't challenge yourself? You stay too safe to push your boundaries... you don't have the skills you seem to think you do.

Thursday 1 December 2011

"Smile, even if this is a sad smile, what is really sad is the sadness of not being able to smile in freedom".
It wouldn't surprise me right now if everyone was sat behind my backs calling me a sore loser and saying I've brought everything on myself; infact that might as well be the case. But I am sorry that not everyone's lift is fine and dandy just like other's and that some people can manage their problems an awful lot better and easier that what perhaps I do.

Sorry I don't have anyone who will support me to how I would like them to and that I don't really have anyone... at all. Sob story now? blah.

If today would like to get any bleeding worse for me then feel free to go ahead and do it right now... don't know how much more it could possibly get actually.

P.S. A large sum of money to get the **** away from everyone for a very long time would be much appreciated.
Today will go badly. That is all.

Wednesday 30 November 2011

A selection of 10 images from London today including one almighty mustache and a shot of the tail end of the protest. All of the above were saved as JPEG from RAW in the editing software so no other editing has been done. (:
Today I spent the day in London wow-ing at everything which I couldn't afford to buy in Camden Market, eating chicken in KFC and taking lots of photographs during the protest (: I am now going to buy myself an Angry Birds hat from eBay and force myself to stay awake...

Examples/final images of what I got from today will be up within the next few days.

Tuesday 29 November 2011

Trying to plan everything is confusing me so much... fitting college and work around my 'social life' is going to drive me mad. Seems to be helping writing it all out though so for Christmas, a 2012 diary would be helpful. Need to contact Flares in town about getting paid for the two shifts I completed; if they won't phone me back for more shifts then screw them... I just want paying for what I had done then I won't bother. 'We'll phone you back' ch'yeah right.

Gah, I need to keep to deadlines, I need to keep on top of my work and I can't slip; I cannot catch up like I thought I'd be able to. I also need to keep myself motivated to do work and to not give up... I'd say challenge accepted, but I know it'll be the most difficult part of it all.

"Hello me, meet the real me. and my misfits way of life."

Friday 25 November 2011

Yesterday I went to the Swansea Metropolitan University for their open day and taster course in Photography/Photojournalism.

We had a tour around the campus which has 2 massive black and white film developing and printing rooms, colour film developing and printing rooms; both with 35mm, 120 and 5x4" enlargers in them, a huge studio, a camera store with digital Hassleblads, Canon 5D mark iis, 5x4 cameras, medium format cameras, studio lighting and location lighting kits which can all be borrowed and such and such.

We then had used some location lighting both indoors in the library and then outside; it was fortunate for me that the indoor location lighting kit was the Bowens one which I use in college :3 -smug-. The outdoors lighting kit was different and very compaq but it was still fairly simple to use.

The facilities there were brilliant also with Costa vending machines! :3

Overall; ich mag ganz viel! super glücklich.

Tuesday 22 November 2011

Today my old attitude of waking up and wanting to go back to sleep returned; but instead of going back to sleep and avoiding my daily tasks I actually got myself out of it and done what I needed to do.
I now have my 4 final 5x4 prints done and I will hopefully be able to get my negatives scanned in. (:

Off to Peterborough Library I go!

soi soi soi soi.

Monday 21 November 2011

successful darkroom print from today! the best quality image of it I could get for now... hopefully I'll be able to get my mits on some fibrebased A3 paper and then do one of these for my portfolio :).

I have achieved today; this and lots of other contact prints!

Saturday 19 November 2011

18/11/2011 - What have I achieved?
I managed to hand in my Toni & Guy assignment on time and I took the large format camera home to do some shooting with.

19/11/2011 - What have I achieved?
Today I have taken my two Polly Chandler inspired images on a 5x4 camera. It'll be Monday when I come to developing my negatives and then and printing from them. I have also found out the governors of both Peterborough and Whitemoor prisons! :)

Friday 18 November 2011

Thursday 17 November 2011

'What have I achieved today?'

is the question I should be asking myself at the end of every single day; so every single day I am going to ask myself this very question and write a post on here about it.

So, what have I achieved today?
Today I have handed in my architecture assignment to a standard I am pleased with and also my contextual studies essay. I have also organised using the large format camera over the weekend and have bought my train tickets to Swansea for the university open day.

I need to finish off my work for my Toni & Guy brief due today and to find my journal.

Wednesday 16 November 2011

These are 3 of the images which I took on my trip to London on the 15th November 2011. The top one is the interior of the Lloyds building and the other two are the interior of London City Hall. All of these are untouched and unedited images which I will tweak before handing in and then uploading to here and on my Facebook; but for now, this is your preview. (:
I have also stopped putting my font on the smallest one but only the small one - slowly getting to using bigger fonts :')

Example image from todays shoot... editing and final images to come :).
I am so fed up with everyone.

I should know by now if I want something done, to do it myself... I've always said I'd be better off by myself and now, I guess this is becoming more and more apparent to me.

Tuesday 15 November 2011

Finally home after a busy day in London; so tired.

At first I got some interior shots of the Lloyds building and got to go up and down the really tall elevators on the outside of the building... have to say it was absolutely terrifying. |:

After Lloyds we found our way to City Hall and got some interiors there; the man was absolutely lovely. Was hoping The Mayor didn't walk in mid-way through taking photographs otherwise it would've been awkward.

After our shooting we spent some time looking around Camden Market and Covent Gardens :). After a nap image editing and uploading it shall be!

Monday 14 November 2011

I have received confirmation from Swansea Metropolitan University about attending their taster day in Photojournalism :). Now I need to talk to my tutor about getting the day or two off college so I can attend which'll also give me an opportunity to take some more photos. If I can take a tripod when I visit then I am going to experiment with slow shutter star trails and possibly do some landscape work.

I have also developed some medium format portraits which I had used as experimental work for when I do my large format Polly Chandler style images like the one below:

Hopefully I can do contact prints and maybe a final print or two of my medium format negatives and also try to get them scanned digitally so I can upload them onto here.

Today I'll be going to London with my friend Joanne to shoot the interior of the City Hall and of the Lloyds building! Hopefully it'll be a good chance to visit Camden to take some street portraits also for another assignment.

All in all, a fairly positive mood for me :). Apart it being at the wrong time in the day; need to shift this motivation from 4:40am to a human hour.

Saturday 12 November 2011

Today I'm going to be doing some portrait shots of my family using the Mamiya RZ67 pro ii. I'm fairly confident that I can work the camera well enough to actually get some images... now all I need to do is to get dressed and go take photos.

Thursday 10 November 2011

There's nothing I love more than getting bouts of motivation out of absolutely nowhere.
I know I need to work on my self motivation but gaining motivation out of nowhere is a start. I hope things go well and then I'll be happy.

Things go well = happy chloe = motivation to do stuff!

Also, after visiting Swansea this weekend, I have decided I want to look at the Metropolitan University there because they do photojournalism C:

Best photo from my journey to Swansea has to be without a doubt this one. The single most amazing thing I have seen in my whole entire life! :}

Wednesday 2 November 2011

So yesterday in London turned out to be... half-successful. Successful for everyone who got to take a large format image apart from myself and a friend aaand to those who got to pay £5 less for their trains there :).

Note to self: get a photography permit if I want to shoot the City Hall.

Wednesday 26 October 2011

I don't think I could feel much lower than what I do... sure I now have 2 jobs but I am so unhappy with myself it's ridiculous. I'm everything which I didn't want to be.

Photography related: I went into town to try do some architecture photography at night... I don't think it was successful however I need to look through my images and edit those which I want to work with.

Monday 24 October 2011

I thought I'd read up on bracketing today and the first thing I read was "First of all, the D3000 does not have auto-bracketing.  So, you will need to do this manually." meaning I've been doing my differently exposed images in the best way (which I think) possible. Can't complain.

Saturday 22 October 2011

Thursday 20 October 2011

I'm really excited to use the large format 5 x 4 camera in college :3 *happy*

Tuesday 18 October 2011

Photoshop time.
Today has been one of the most stressful days yet and it was only a test shoot. I am both looking forward to and absolutely dreading the real thing.
Everything started going wrong from the very beginning.
I'm still stressing about it now and it's hours afterwards... at least we have images and Toni & Guy willing to help with hair.

Most applicable saying at the moment would be: 'If you want something done, do it yourself.'
working in a team is so stressful... especially when I'm a headstrong person.

AAAAARGH. D: *facepalm*

Monday 17 October 2011

I had a brainwave! With my slightly creepy photographs of my zombie and gas mask and such, I am going to name them gore-traits. Now to create a Facebook page so I can share my amazing idea. haha :)

Friday 14 October 2011

Today feels very productive so far in terms of getting college assignments and test shoots sorted! Me and Joanne found a hair stylist for our Toni & Guy inspired shoot and have a model ready to come in on our selected day. We now need to find a make-up artist and outfits and we'll be pretty much prepared for one of our hopefully 3 models.

Thursday 13 October 2011

Tonight I have to finish my first draft of my personal statement, gather everything for my architecture and Toni & Guy briefs, read 20 pages of langfords basic photography and write down questions...

I struggle to read even at the best of times as I get bored easily so 20 pages of a book which is based on pure fact and knowledge is going to be easy.

Wednesday 12 October 2011

Our plan to go London today was cut short when we arrived in college however we did get to wonder the streets of Peterborough and look for modern and interesting buildings which we could practise bracketing with to then merge into HDR images. It's safe to say that Peterborough is uninspiring and is not very modern compared to other cities but I think we're getting there slowly!

Tuesday 11 October 2011

Time to look at all of the buildings in London which I've researched and to put them all on some form of map which can be understood easily to then show our tutor tomorrow for ideas of where we can visit for architecture photography.

Wednesday 5 October 2011

Today in Queensgate we had a student lock in for all the students in college and university to come and enjoy some free music, discounts and freebies. Local Peterborough band The Whisky Jax played and I thought it'd be a good opportunity to test out the Canon camera and 50mm f1.4 lens which I had borrowed from college earlier the day. I took it out to try some portraiture so taking some portraits of the band performing was a good opportunity for me. I need to go and edit my RAW images but this was one of the JPEGS which I took getting use to the camera.

Tuesday 27 September 2011

Say hello to my little friend. This is my first attempt at creating a matchbox pinhole camera which I am actually really pleased with. I followed a German youtube video tutorial which was the best for me and now I can only hope the film went in the right way.

Excuse my hook-like little finger.

Monday 26 September 2011

Shopping list for town today:

  • black pen
  • 2 match boxes
  • black tape
  • scalpel (if possible)
going to attempt to make a pinhole camera.

Wednesday 14 September 2011

These are my best images from my light painting experiment experiment. For these results I put my camera on:
Manual mode
Bulb
F14
ISO 100
I like how the light patterns turned out and the effects they've given. I'm going to try and get a different coloured torch to see what other things I can create.

Tuesday 13 September 2011

Today I'm going to experiment with some light painting with a small torch I've purchased. i'll use a long shutter speed with my camera on my tripod and experiment with different times and shapes to see which gives the best effects.

Monday 12 September 2011

These are my final images (excluding one which wouldn't upload) from the skating competition yesterday which was held in Whittlesey. I've never taken action photographs of people participating in a sport so it was very different for me. I feel that my images turned out fairly good for a first attempt on movement shots. I am going to experiment with some slow exposures in the next few days also playing with light trails and such.

Thursday 8 September 2011

I feel like I have hit a big wall where I don't know what I can do to move forward. I think I need to look towards other sources of inspiration and fast..

Wednesday 7 September 2011

Darkroom books, 50p each from the charity shop, don't mind if I do.

These are my final edits from the sunset I photographed back when I went to Liverpool and have finally managed to get around to sorting through them. I have added a lot of colour and vibrancy to how they turned out on my camera. I remember the sky being very bright and colourful on that day. I feel that I may have added too much colour however this is quite different to my usual stuff. I'm fairly pleased with them however I feel that landscapes are another area which I would like to improve upon.
